Tunnel of Victory Streamers
Concrete Towers showering confetti of victory, success
leaning inward, at dusk or dawn,
dim light anyway, at the edges of the day
traffic below in the belly of the beast,
headlights on to lighten the dimness
grey misty sky.
In the distance, more towers, lining up like soldiers
smartly at attention
cramming into the middle line, leaning
eager to meet in the middle!
Mannah dropping mysteriously from the sky
from the god-people who live there in
large whirring birds
why are they giving us this magnanimous
Perhaps we have been good at something,
we deserve extra paper droppings
to make our little bird nests with,
so our eggs will be warm and our children will hatch
in this cold concrete tunnel of sky-scrapers.
