Youths, sauntering through ancient cobblestone streets,
keep to their side, focusing forward, passing.
Above the tree oversees the life, as if from a still-born picture.
At the end, the passage becomes narrowed, difficult to negotiate.
The windows above, observe placidly, the comings and goings
of the city's latest life-forms.
Below, in the sewer, the rats gather for their all-important meetings.
