Listen
Instinct dictates us to do things
perhaps written out in code,
only in our genes.
We are unconscious in the doing,
knowing only we feel compelled to do this.
The end result, not by conscious design
of our own, but a species wide design.
Containers to shelter our offspring,
but only for a short time.
Where did our free will go?
And what would have been the product of it?
What relationship to unconscious, animal instinct?
Something as simple and fragile and as functionally beautiful?
Or ornery,
Nothing but stinging, and biting, and stealing of sweet nectars?
Is it the building that matters,
the design that dictates,
or the end result,
that is set free from it?
