Rain Stones

Original Composition Date: Thursday, April 29, 2010

Each slab has one hundred years
of rain,
steeping in a slow perk;
each stone chiselled by a cutter,
hand shaped, inserted
mosaic-ly,
cobbled together, path-wise.

Each traveller, tread here
unconscious of impact,
one hundred years of weight,
borne,
worne, and sanded smooth
time, etching
a new design.
with-out, with-in.

Underlying the journey,
or the one who journeys?
Rough old pavement of the way,
or inroad to a new destination?
